Oregon toddler, man identified in deadly I-5 crash south of Bakersfield

UPDATE (3:25 p.m., Dec. 7) - The Kern County Coroner's Office has identified the victims in Sunday's crash as 3-year-old Cesar Urquiza and 40-year-old Cesar Garcia, both of McMinnville, Oregon.

UPDATE (8:12 a.m.): CHP has confirmed two people have died and three were injured in the crash. The injured were transported to the hospital. 

One lane remains closed at the scene gets cleaned up.

According to police initial investigation shows a semi truck ran into the back of a Jeep SUV that was carrying a family of five. A father and a 2 year old boy died at the scene.

Two other children, one 4-5 years old and the other 9, along with the mother were transported to area hospitals. 

The 4-5 year old suffered major burns and was transferred to USC Medical Hospital. The 9 year old had moderate burns and was taken to Kern Medical. The mother was also taken to the hospital with burns on her hands.

Officials said there are conflicting reports about what caused the crash.

The driver of the semi truck was uninjured. 

One lane of the I-5 near Highway 166 is expected to remain closed for a couple hours.

The California Highway Patrol is on scene of a fatal crash on northbound I-5 near SR-166. 

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch website the crash happened around 6:00 a.m. 

Northbound and southbound lanes were temporarily shut down. One northbound lane remains closed, all southbound lanes have reopened.
