Stockdale's Lexi Keene has been one of the top golfers in town since she broke on the scene her freshman year.

While she's got the swing, she also knows golf is all about having the mental side squared away so she gets her confidence from when she won an individual valley title. "(Winning valley) set in my mind that I was capable of competing with the girls around here and girls anywhere."

This year nothing has stood in her way as she came out for her senior season shooting rounds of 71, 69 and 68. "I was under par coming out of the gate," she said. "I came out hot."

That streaky play continued into league play. Tuesday she fired a 71 at Riverlakes and finally completed a perfect 5-0 record in the Southwest Yosemite League. "For two straight years I won all of them but one and then this year I finally won five out of five," she said.

Colleges took notice of all of those wins and after fielding a number of offers she committed to Northern Arizona University because she "fell in love with the whole area of Flagstaff."

With just a couple high school matches left she says a different mindset is getting rid of any pressure she might be facing. Where her first couple years everything she did was focused on golf, now she's focusing on having fun each round and trying to improve every time.

"I feel like that's given me a lot of room to grow as a player when I'm not beating myself up constantly," she said. With that new outlook she's trying to go into her final valley championship without any expectations saying, "I'm confident in my abilities and I know if I play the way that I should, I should be there."
