Auto Blog Picks Best, Worst Cars Since 2000
Jalopnik Aims Toward Cars Inspiring Passion, Capturing Imagination
UPDATED: 7:06 am PST December 17, 2009
There have been many cars and trucks released over the past decade. Some have stood the test of time and will be remembered for years, both by car junkies and casual drivers. But there have been many more vehicles that have failed, in one way or another, and been cast aside to be forgotten.Luckily, the automotive blog Jalopnik.com has shed some light on both the automotive successes and failures of the past 10 years with its "best" and "worst" lists.
In putting together its "best" list, Jalopnik laid out a couple of ground rules. First, all cars and trucks had to be priced at $200,000 or less and had to have been sold in the United States between 2000 and 2010. Each model also had to have exceeded 1,000 units produced per year and been available to the public through an ordinary, open-door dealership. But most important, every car that made the list had to have inspired passion in or captured the imagination of Jalopnik staff. With that in mind, here is the site's list of the "Best 10 Cars Of The Decade:"
- BMW M Coupe
- Chevrolet Corvette (C6)
- Audi R8 (V-8 only)
- Honda S2000
- Mini Cooper (R50)
- Porsche 911 GT3 (996)
- Ferrari F430
- Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution (Evo VIII/IX)
- Pontiac G8 GXP
- Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
- Jeep Compass
- Chrysler Sebring
- Ford Focus (only 2005 model year and up)
- Chevrolet Aveo
- Smart ForTwo
- Kia Amanti
- Pontiac Bonneville (Ninth Gen)
- Dodge Caliber
- Chrysler PT Cruiser
- Hummer H2
