Dating After 50: What You Should Know

About 40 Percent Of Boomers Are Single

By Eisla Sebastian, Contributing writer

Dating is challenging no matter how old you are. However, as you enter each new age category, you are faced with new challenges, obstacles and opportunities. If you are over 50 and re-entering the dating market, these tips will help guide you through the match-making process to find love.

Don't Give Up on Love

Right now, there are more than 97 million American baby boomers, and 40 percent of these people are single. That means there are a lot of people in the same boat, and there are a lot of people you could be making a connection with. However, if you don't try to meet someone new, you're not going to find love. So take that first step and open yourself up to the possibility of dating again.

Start Fresh

One problem that a lot of singles over 50 have is difficulty letting go of past dating and relationship tragedies. Bitter and regretful may be how you feel, but you need to work past these negative feelings so your new relationships have a chance at developing into something great.

Learn Where to Meet People in Your Age Group

There are a lot of ways to meet new singles. However, to find quality people who are in your age group, you need to look beyond the local bar scene. Some of the best places to find a date include church, outdoors clubs, speed-dating services, matchmaking services and online dating services.

Find Balance

When you search for a new partner, you will want to balance compatibility with sexual attractiveness. Since you are more experienced now, you know what you want and what you don't want in a partner. Try to select people that you find both physical and emotionally attractive.

Use Common Sense When Dating

A lot of people are searching for dates. Some people are going to be nice and some are going to be scary. When you re-enter the dating pool, make sure you use common sense to stay safe as you meet new people.

For example, don't give out too much personal information when you first meet, set up dates for public places, bring your own car and keep things casual.
