BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- It's been a 20-year process for downtown to shake the violent ties it once had. Those heading the downtown revival guarantee there are no strings attached when it comes to the progress that has been made over the past several years. The last two pieces of the puzzle to the rediscovery of downtown lay twofold. First, the multimillion-dollar Mill Creek Park project is set to open on May 28. The 1.5-mile downtown park project comes complete with restaurants, housing and a deluxe multiscreen movie theater. The other part rests in the hands of the renovated Padre Hotel, which is planning on opening its doors sometime in September.
