Father of Victim Speaks Out

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- ABC 23 followed up Tuesday on a 4th of July family reunion that turned into a homicide scene.Anthony Johnson, 37, was shot to death early Sunday morning while leaving a family party. While the Bakersfield police is staying quiet about the investigation, Johnson's father is speaking out.ABC 23 spoke to Anthony’s father, Willie Johnson Tuesday.
Johnson said he was still in “disbelief.” That state of disbelief stems from the fun his son Anthony was having just moments before police say three black teen males opened fire on him.Anthony brought his motorcycle all the way from his home in Texas.Willie said Anthony was giving all partygoers at the reunion rides on the cycle around the neighborhood. Johnson died moments after the teen group fired into the large crowd.Also injured in the shooting was Anthony’s cousin Lavar "Big" Johnson.Lavar is an up-and-coming star in the world of mixed martial arts.The “MMA” fighter was shot once in the abdomen.His uncle said medically he's stable at Kern Medical Center.
