BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A Bakersfield Police Department motorcycle officer was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after he ran into an SUV in downtown Bakersfield.

BPD said that senior office Jerry Whisenhunt was at the intersection of 20 and I Streets, when Isabel Rodriguez, 20, in an SUV pulled out in front of him at the intersection.

BPD said the officer did not have time to react and slammed into the side of her vehicle.

Whisenhunt suffered minor to moderate injures to his ankles and arms.

The woman told police she stopped at the intersection, but just did not see the officer.

She has not been cited.
