BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- When you think summer vacation, Downtown Bakersfield probably isn't the first thing that comes to mind. But you might be surprised as to what you can find, as ABC 23's Central Bakersfield reporter Karl Mandik did just that. So, where does fun meet frugal across Downtown Bakersfield?
As a man on a mission, Karl was able to find just about everything you can think from antique shopping at Curiosity Shop Antiques where have a little bit of everything from vintage dolls, police medals, vinyl and even old Bakersfield yearbooks. Then there is the food, from burgers at Happy Jack's to Carribean cuisine at Mamba Rumba's, where you can also cool off with a nice mojito. And forget about having to drive from spot to spot, the dog days of summer downtown are way too hot to walk. So, take advantage of the free down trolley which runs Monday thru Friday and has convenient spots across downtown.Every day at the Bakersfield Art Museum the price of admission is only a buck from the hours of 2pm and 4 pm.To wrap up your Downtown Stay-cation why not get the family together to get in touch with your Kern County roots. No better place to get a taste of Central Valley history then at the Kern County Museum.
