Hospital To Light The Town Pink

UPDATED: 2:50 pm PDT October 8, 2009

San Joaquin Community Hospital (SJCH) is proud to recognize October as national breast cancer awareness month by partnering with Links for Life to turn the hospital campus pink.

Through the end of October, nighttime visitors to the hospital will experience the pink glow of the parking lot lights as well as the exterior lights surrounding the hospital—a visual reminder of the significant celebration of breast cancer awareness month.

SJCH will partner with dozens of other individuals and businesses in support of Links for Life’s “Light the Town Pink” event, October 1-30.

The goal of the project is to light homes and businesses throughout the Bakersfield area and raise funds for the fight against breast cancer.

“We’re thrilled to be able to participate in this one-of-a-kind event,” said Jarrod McNaughton, SJCH Vice President. “Knowing what a devastating disease breast cancer is within our community, we felt compelled to partner with Links for Life, an organization who does a great deal to support those affected by cancer.”

Links for Life is a local non-profit organization that offers free mammograms, ultrasounds, or needle biopsy for those who without insurance or are underinsured. In addition, they help to provide wigs for those under the effects of chemotherapy, provide a library of positive mental health, support groups and seminars.

In addition, Links for Life gives scholarships for students entering the medical field.

All the money raised in Kern County stays in Kern County.
