BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The man wanted in connection with the killing and shooting of a family over the 4th of July weekend has been arrested.Around 4:30 a.m. Monday, the Bakersfield Police Department said they received a call from the secret witness hot line regarding the whereabouts of Bennie West, 20.West was found inside an apartment on the 1200 block of Niles Street, polioce said.
West was taken into custody without incident, police said.West was arrested on charges of murder, four counts of attempted murder, conspiracy and participation in a criminal street gang.West was also wanted in connection with the kidnapping and sexual assault of a female on March 8, in the 1500 block of 19th Street.Sherrie Wandick, 19, Whitney Wandick, 21, Zukiiya Nichols, 33, and Charles Williams, 37, were all arrested at the Niles Street residence on charges of accesory and participation in a criminal street gang.Over the 2009 4th of July weekend, the Bakersfield Police Department received a call of a possible assault with a firearm near the intersection of First and T streets.Police said three black teens were walking past the home when one of the teens suddenly pulled out a handgun and began to fire into the crowd.Anthony Johnson, 37, of Jacksonville, Texas, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died at the scene, the BPD reported.Chrystin Johnson, 35, of Jacksonville, Texas, and the wife of Anthony, sustained a moderate injury from a gunshot wound to her leg.Cynthia Mackey, 46, of Bakersfield, sustained a minor gunshot wound to her hand.Lavar Johnson, 32, of Madera, sustained a serious gunshot wound to his abdomen.Larry Dellouette, 62, of Los Angeles, sustained a minor gunshot wound to his foot.Laquiria Foreman, 15, was also arrested on July 17 in connection with the killing.She was arrested on one charge of murder and four charges of attempted murder and also faces charges of conspiracy and participation in gang activity.
