Demolition Will Cause Delays On Golden State Hwy For Years

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The California Department of Transportation in cooperation with Griffith Company will be doing construction work on the Chester Bridge on eastbound SR-204.During bridge demolition and reconstruction, Caltrans said both east and westbound traffic will share the westbound bridge deck and travel will be reduced from four lanes to two lanes over the bridge.Demolition is anticipated to begin the week of Oct. 19, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Caltrans said the project is expected to be complete in early 2011.All state route 204 traffic will be redirected onto the westbound bridge deck during demolition and reconstruction of the eastbound bridge.Periodic closures of segments of the chester avenue traffic circle will be needed during demolition.The $787 billion american recovery and reinvestment act funded the project.Caltrans thanks motorists and merchants for their patience as they reconstruct the Chester Avenue bridge on state route 204.Please allow additional travel time and drive with extra care through construction zones.
