According to police, a drunken man was arrested and somehow was able to make his way out of the police department building after being arrested.

On Thursday around 6 p.m., Joseph Leary was arrested on charges of DUI and related traffic violations in the 2600 block of Century Street.

He was transported to the Bakersfield Police Department for further investigation.

While at the police department, Leary was able to exit the police building undetected by officers, according to Detective Bill Darbee.

He was later located and arrested by Bakersfield police officers, Darbee said.

He was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of DUI and other related charges.

A charge of delaying arrest was added upon booking.
