BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- Homicide investigators are combing through a bloody crime scene after a man died following an overnight stabbing in central Bakersfield.Bakersfield police say they got several calls around 1:30 a.m. on Monday regarding a man down on the 3600 block of M Street. When police arrived, they found Jerry Luther Ennis, 51, of Tehachapi, on the front porch of an apartment. But investigators are puzzled by a secondary crime scene, in a car parked nearby.
Detective Mary DeGeare told ABC23, "He parked south of the residence, there was a lot of blood inside the car. We're not sure if he was stabbed elsewhere and pulled up and stopped, or whether he was stabbed here. The crime scene indicates that he got out of the car, walked up to the front door of this apartment, and started banging on the door. And that's when people started calling."DeGeare said Ennis had a laceration on his neck, but couldn't confirm how serious that cut was, or what other injuries he sustained.Ennis was transported to Kern Medical Center, but died as a result of his injuries.
