Virginia: Cash For Appliances Rebate Program

Virginia is planning a rebate program this spring to help residents replace older, inefficient appliances with energy-efficient appliances.
The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.
Virginia will receive about $7.5 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
The state is implementing the program in partnership with some utilities. Participating utilities will receive a population-based portion of the state’s allocation to augment appliance rebate programs operated by the utilities. The Virginia Department of Mines, Minerals and Energy (DMME) will also offer rebates to all other qualifying Virginia residents who are not eligible for a utility rebate.
The program is tentatively scheduled to begin in late April.
