UPDATED: 7:19 am PST March 3, 2010

Idaho's Cash For Appliances program will begin in late March and end when funds are depleted, presumably by June. A specific start date for the program has not yet been set.

The program will allow consumers to get rebates when they purchase new, more energy-efficient Energy Star appliances for their home.

Eligible appliances include:
  • Refrigerators - $75
  • Clothes washers - $75
  • Dishwashers - $50
  • Room air conditioners - $25
  • Electric heat pump water heaters - $150
  • Gas storage water heaters - $150
  • Solar water heaters - $150
  • Oil furnaces - $110
  • Gas furnaces - $125
  • Oil boilers - $300
  • Gas boilers - $200
  • Air source heat pumps (including ductless models) - $250

Participating retailers will be responsible for removing, and if possible, recycling old appliances. Rebates will not be offered retroactively, but only on appliances purchased once the program officially starts.

The program is one of 56 State Energy-Efficient Appliance Rebate Programs, popularly known as Cash for Appliances, that are being set up in the United States and six U.S. territories with the help of federal stimulus money.

Idaho will receive about $1.4 million of the nearly $300 million in stimulus funding available nationwide from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
