BAKERSFIELD, Ca -- The mystery surrounding a local toddler's death will remain that way ... at least until tomorrow.Autopsy results for Guillermo Alvarez will not be released until Thursday .The autopsy for 2-year old Alvarez took took more than eight hours today, longer than the usual time taken for an autopsy. The coroner's office says they had to be extra thorough due to the suspicious manner surrounding the boy's death.
Guillermo's mother, Gina Serna, told ABC 23 exclusively that the toddler suffered a shattered spleen and was brain dead from a lack of oxygen.The coroner's office confirmed that he did have internal injuries and was put on a ventilator before he died.The Sheriff's Office was called out to the boy's home Monday morning because Alvarez was unresponsive.The toddler was flown to Children's hospital Central California where he died Monday afternoon.Homicide detectives are calling it a suspicious death.Guillermo's mother said she left Guillermo and his four siblings in the care of her now ex boyfriend while she worked.The Sheriff 's Office has questioned him but no arrests have been made so far.The other four children, ages 3 to 9, are in protective custody.Previous Story June 23, 2009: Mother Mourns Son Who Died Suspiciously
