BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A small group of kids are making masterpieces worth big bucks.Nearly a dozen kids from the East Bakersfield Boys and Girls Club created more than 25 works of art. Some of the kids are as young as 8 years old.
In a part of town known for its violence and tough streets, these kids say they find peace in their work as the club keeps them out of trouble. So to show their appreciation, these young artists have decided to auction off their work.Twelve year old Savanah Cano said, "I would like to show them to my parents but I'd like keeping it here and giving it to people because they're buying to help the boys and girls club."The art pieces will be auctioned off Saturday night at the 2009 Artfest.Proceeds will go back into the Boys and Girls club to pay for art supplies, equipment and other necessities. The 2009 Artfest isn't just an auction, there will be dinner, wine tasting and a silent auction in addition to the live auction. The event is Saturday night from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Moorea banquet center in the southwest.
