CALM's Feast For The Beasts

The California Living Museum (CALM) will be closed Nov. 26 for Thanksgiving, but invites visitors out the following day, Friday, Nov. 27 for a free admission and a chance to help stockpile food for the animals on Feast for the Beasts Day.

CALM, located between Hart Park and Lake Ming in northeast Bakersfield, will be open from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., and each visitor will be admitted for free in exchange for one of the following food donations to the animals:

  • 3 lbs. pecans, walnuts, almonds and/or unshelled peanuts (all without salt or flavoring)
  • 5 lbs. frozen mixed vegetables
  • 2 lb. jar of peanut butter, jam or honey
  • 2 lbs. dried fruit (raisins, apricots, banana chips, etc.)
  • 5 lbs. yams or sweet potatoes (uncooked)
  • 5 lb. bag of IAMS dog food in the green or blue bag
  • 5 lb. bag of wild birdseed
  • 3 boxes of Ziploc® freezer bags (quart or gallon)
  • 2-1/2 oz. boxes of Honey Bunches of O’s, Cheerios, Fruit Loops, Honeycomb and/or Frosted Mini Wheats
  • $20 gift card from any pet, grocery, hardware or office supply store will admit two adults and two children
  • “Everything on this list is vitally needed and helps keep the ever-rising food costs down,” said CALM Director Tom Anspach. “Feast for the Beasts is a wonderful tradition that officially begins the holiday season at CALM.”
