Man Arrested On Arson Charges

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A 33-year-old man is in custody after arson investigators said a tree was burning into an apartment complex.Around 2 a.m. Tuesday, call was received by Kern County Fire Department for a possible structure fire in the 1700 block of Flower Street.When crews arrived, they said they found a tree fire burning into an apartment complex, prompting residents to evacuate their homes.
Crews extinguished the fire in the tree. Due to the damage done to the building's exterior, fire crews check for any extension to the attic, which subsequently was filled with smoke.Arson units responded to the incident and have taken a 33-year-old man into custody, under suspicion of arson.Damage is estimated at $1,000. No injuries have been reported.
