4-Year-Old, 2 Adults Burned In House Fire

A family was stuck in a mobile home after it caught fire and left a 4-year-old and two adults with injuries.

Around 7:45 a.m. on Thursday, crews from the Bakersfield Fire Department and county fire units responded to a report of structure fire in southeast Bakersfield.

First responders reported a fully engulfed 40-foot mobile home.

The BFD worked to stop the fire before it damaged two commercial buildings that were adjacent to the mobile home, according to Battalion Chief Garth Milam.

The fire rapidly consumed the home and most of its contents. There was a total loss of $20,000, but the fire departments were able to save approximately $130,000.

Three residents were inside when the fire broke out, Milam said.

Milam said a 4-year-old boy received burns to the face, hands and legs. His injuries appear to be moderate.

Both adults in the home suffered minor burns and smoke inhalation.

All three were transported to The Grossman Burn Center at San Joaquin Community Hospital.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the BFD Arson Unit. The American Red Cross was dispatched to assist with the needs of the family.
