Sheriff: 61-Year-Old Man Arrested After Stabbing Girlfriend

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A man has been arrested after he stabbed his girlfriend, deputies with the Kern County Sheriff's Department said.Around 9:50 p.m. on Sunday, deputies were dispatched to Memorial Hospital on a report of a victim of a stabbing. When deputies arrived, they contacted a woman in the emergency room.The woman told deputies that she was living with her boyfriend, Geronimo Chavez, 61, in the 1300 block of Catalpa Way.
The woman told deputies that as she was washing dishes Sunday evening, Chavez entered the residence, grabbed her from behind and stabbed her once in the left side of her chest, deputies said.After being stabbed, the woman told deputies that she was able to wrestle the knife away from Chavez and flee the residence.At 11:30 pm, deputies went to the Catalpa Way residence and arrested Chavez on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, spousal abuse and making terrorist threats.The woman's injures do not appear to be life-threatening.
