BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- For the past two years, 13-year-old Alyson Tackitt and her eight-year-old sister Ashley have been slowly collecting new or gently used party dresses. Last month they kicked their project into full gear by going to offices, businesses and schools inBakersfield."Actually when we first got interviewed we only had about 30-40 dresses, now we have upto 200 dresses. I was so excited," said Alyson.Bella At The Marketplace donated 30 new designer dresses.
"Hopefully it'll allow someone who wouldn't otherwise be allowed to go to prom to go and have self-confidence and be excited and proud to go to her prom," said Heidi Nicolls, owner of Bella at the Marketplace.Nicolls says she couldn't say no to Ashley and Alyson's efforts."Gosh you could hope all the youth of today were like that. It's so nice especially in hard times like this that they're thinking of others and not themselves," said Nicolls. But now that they're ready to give away the dresses, only a few people have shown interest. Now the girls are switching their focus from finding dresses to finding recipients."I'm excited to dress people and get them to be happy," said Ashley."If anybody knows anyone who would like one, please call the Noriega House," said Alyson.Anyone interested in receiving a prom dress can go to the Noriega House in east Bakersfield or call 633-9016.
