Fiery Crash Kills 1, Injures 1-Year-Old

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- A 28-year-old woman was killed when the cars she was riding in was hit by a motorist suspected of drunken driving.Officers from the California Highway Patrol said the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. Wednesday, when 23-year-old Marcus Trevino of Fallbrook was speeding in an orange Mitsubishi on Kentucky Avenue toward Mount Vernon Avenue.Officers said Trevino ran a stop sign and broadsided an Infiniti driven by 19-year-old Cherie Marie Lopez.
Police said that both cars caught fire and the three people in the Infiniti were pinned inside.Bystanders were able to pull Lopez, 1-year-old Jayden Gonzalez and Perla Gonzalez, 28 out of the car. They were all taken to Kern Medical Center.Lopez suffered minor injuries and Gonzalez suffered major injures.Gonzalez died at KMC.Trevino was not injured in the crash and was arrested on charges of felony DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
