Shooting Victim's Mother Says Arrest Brings Little Relief

Frank Flores' Family Worried About Public's Safety

While the Sheriff's Office has put one man behind bars for the Mercado Latino Arestaurant shooting, two more suspects are still on the loose. And that leaves the family of shooting victim Frank Flores still in fear.

ABC 23 spoke to the mother of Frank Flores who says last week's arrest is encouraging news but its far from bringing any relief.

  • "I don't feel at ease with one arrest because there's people still out there who are free when they should be caught," said Flores mother.

Frank Flores' mother did not want her name used for fear of retaliation. But that's not the only fear she has been living with since her son was gunned down last month.

"We will always have fear that with the other suspects still loose that what happened to us can happen to someone else, to another family. I don't want anymore bloodshed," said Flores.

The Sheriff's Office has identified 30-year-old Jesus Aragon, 33-year-old Jose Torres and 18-year-old Juan Vasquez. Detectives said Flores was shot several times on July 18 by the suspects, whom they said he had kicked out of a restaurant at Mercado Latino earlier in the evening for being rowdy.

Charles Turner is a fellow security guard there who says he's come across the suspects several times in the past.

"Troublemakers. Always a problem. Kicked out all the time," said Turner.

On Friday, the L.A county Sheriff's Department arrested Aragon in Los Angeles for narcotics charges and an outstanding warrant for killing Frank Flores.

"We hope the others are caught. All of them. We hope the one they caught will confess the whereabouts of the others," said Flores' mother.

If Aragon doesn't reveal where the others are, detectives and the Flores family hopes the community will. The Sheriff's Office said witnesses have been cooperative and even the public has kept a watchful eye out for the other suspects.

"A friend of mine working at another nightclub in town told me the possible suspects might be partying at the location he was working . After I got the call from him, I called the Sheriffs Office and they moved on it," said Turner.

Although that call did not result in the arrest of Torres or Vasquez, Mrs. Flores is grateful for the help. "I'm happy to know we're not alone. That the community is helping and hopefully there will be justice for my son," said Flores.

Both Torres and Vasquez are still at large. Both should be considered armed and extremely dangerous and should not be approached. If you see them, call the secret witness hotline at 322-4040.

Aragon is being held on a no bail arrest warrant and faces charges of murder and conspiracy.
