Near the onset of the investigation, the two killings were believed to be connected because of the relationship between the two victims who were last seen together, similarities in the manner of death and similarities in the evidence at both crime scenes, Sgt. Mary DeGeare said.Investigators said they initially determined West was responsible for Trejo’s killing and West was located and arrested by Bakersfield police during a vehicle stop at 30 Street and Union Avenue on Tuesday.Around 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, West was booked into the Kern County Jail on charges of murder. The arrest led to multiple search warrants executed jointly by the BPD and KCSO throughout the night.Police said further investigation and interviews determined West was also responsible for killing Vines, and he was also arrested on charges of murder as well as being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
