Here in the El Tejon school district, it seems money is more important than protecting kids.

El Tejon Middle School was flooded Tuesday when a nearby creek overflowed. A flash flood ran right through the middle of the school.

A fire captain wanted the school closed because he thought it was too dangerous. But district superintendent John White refused to listen. He stubbornly kept this school open. In fact, White only closed the school after the California Highway Patrol told him to because rain could have caused a boulder nearby to fall on a road.

The superintendent told 23News he hoped the state would let him count the shortened school day.

From that we can draw only one conclusion -- you let your concern over state subsidies get in the way of your duty to protect the health, safety and welfare of your students and your teachers.

Channel 23 says White blew it, and there's only one way to make it right. Stand up in an assembly in front of the entire school -- admit your mistake and ask forgiveness.
