Student journalists here at East High just won a free speech battle with their principal. Well whoop-de-do. Too bad the students are missing the bigger issue. The principal finally allowed the school paper to print previously banned articles on openly gay classmates. It's a fight that wound up in the courts, with the ACLU representing the student reporters.Even though the articles have been printed, the lawsuit continues.
The ACLU is suing to determine if the principal had the right to censor the student paper in the first place. 23ABC says that's just plain stupid! Once again taxpayers foot the bill to fight ACLU lawyers -- this time over something that's already in print.23ABC urges the journalism students of East High to drop any future legal action against the school and tell the ACLU to take a hike. We've spent enough time and taxpayer money on this already! That's our take. Now, it's your turn. Tell us what you think.--Craig Jahelka
