Report: Letterman Has Deal With Writers

"The Late Show With David Letterman" may be back on the air with live shows next Wednesday after reaching a deal with striking members of the Writers Guild of America, according to the New York Times.

All the major late-night shows except Letterman have announced they will return early next month, with or without their staffs.

However, because Letterman's company, World Wide Pants, owns his talk show, it will be the only one to air supported by material from writers.

That means Letterman may be able to book guests who won't want to cross picket lines at his competitors' shows.

The same benefit holds true for "The Late Late Show" with Craig Ferguson, which is also owned by Letterman's company.

World Wide Pants is headquartered at the Ed Sullivan Theater building in New York City, the same building that stages Letterman's show.
