Simpson Returns To Vegas To Face Bail Issue

Hearing To Determine If Bail Will Be Revoked

O.J. Simpson was booked into jail in Las Vegas Friday, to await a court hearing on allegations that he violated terms of his bail in an armed robbery case, authorities said.

Simpson, 60, walked briskly into the Clark County Detention Center, flanked by his bail bondsman, Miguel Pereira. Both ignored questions from reporters.

Prosecutors claim a tape-recorded message Simpson left for Pereira in November was an effort to contact a co-defendant Clarence "C.J." Stewart and violated a court order.

Simpson's lawyer, Yale Galanter, denied the allegation in an interview with The Associated Press.

"O.J. did not try to persuade anybody to contact a witness," Galanter said.

"I just want, want C.J. to know that ... I'm tired of this (expletive)," Simpson is quoted as saying in a transcript that was included court documents filed Friday. "Fed up with (expletive) changing what they told me. All right?"

Simpson had been instructed by Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe M. Bonaventure in September not to have any contact with anyone involved in the case -- not even by "carrier pigeon."

A hearing was scheduled for 9 a.m. PST Wednesday at the request of District Attorney David Roger, who filed a motion Friday to revoke Simpson's bail, a clerk for District Court Judge Jackie Glass said.

A Miami TV station showed video of Simpson walking through Miami International Airport near an American Airlines counter Friday. He was wearing a golf visor, golf shirt and jeans, talking on a cell phone while a man accompanied him.

"I can't talk to you guys. I cannot talk to you guys," Simpson said before boarding the plane.

Cameras later showed Simpson walking handcuffed in police custody after his plane arrived at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas.

Prosecutors will argue at a Wednesday hearing that Simpson's bail be revoked and that he be kept in jail until trial.

A bail bondsman at You Ring We Spring bail bonds in North Las Vegas declined immediate comment.

Simpson was freed Sept. 19 on $125,000 bail following his arrest Sept. 16 on allegations he and several friends burst into a Las Vegas hotel room and robbed two sports memorabilia dealers at gunpoint.

Simpson, Stewart and Charles Ehrlich are set to go to trial in April on charges of kidnapping and armed robbery.
