McCain Rips Obama Over Lohan Snub

TMZ Hears From Both Candidates' Camps Over Controversy

Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain's seized the opportunity Wednesday to rip Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama for purportedly snubbing the actress Lindsay Lohan's offer of support.

That's according to celebrity gossip site TMZ.com, which was contacted by McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds to weigh in on the controversy.

Earlier this week, the Chicago Sun Times reported that Lohan purportedly offered to host a series of events to appeal to young voters, but Obama's camp refused. A top source told the Sun Times that Lohan ''is not exactly the kind of high-profile star who would be a positive for us.''

In response, Bounds told TMZ, "So let me get this straight -- they turned away Lindsay Lohan, but Barack Obama has friends like unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers and convicted felon Tony Rezko? Maybe LiLo is just too upstanding for Barack Obama."

Not long after TMZ posted Bounds' response, Obama spokesman Tommy Vietor told the site, "Glad to see they're focused on the important issues over in McCain HQ."

Lohan has been vocal in her blog about the presidential race, pledging her support for Obama and criticizing McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
