'Milk,' 'Button' Top Critics' Choice Noms

Biopic, Pitt Film Nab 8 Nominations Each

Sean Penn's Harvey Milk biopic "Milk" and the Brad Pitt fantasy drama "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" each earn eight nods to top the nominations for the 14th annual Critics’ Choice Awards.

"Milk" and "Benjamin Button" each are up for Best Picture, along with "The Dark Knight," "Doubt" and "Slumdog Millionaire," which earned six nominations each.

Also up for Best Picture are "Changeling," "Frost/Nixon," "The Reader," "Wall-E" and "The Wrestler."

Penn and Pitt are up for Best Actor, along with Clint Eastwood for "Gran Torino," Frank Langella for "Frost/Nixon," Richard Jenkins for "The Visitor" and Mickey Rourke for "The Wrestler."

Eastwood also is up for Best Composer for "Changeling."

In the running for Best Actress are Angelina Jolie for "Changeling," Kate Beckinsale for "Nothing But the Truth," Anne Hathaway for "Rachel Getting Married," Melissa Leo for "Frozen River" and Meryl Streep for "Doubt."

The late Heath Ledger scored a Best Supporting Actor nomination for "The Dark Knight." In addition to that and its Best Picture nod, "The Dark Knight" also is up for Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Acting Ensemble, Best Action Movie and Best Composer.

The CCAs are presented annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association, which includes online entertainment editor Tim Lammers. The BFCA is the largest film critics’ organization in the U.S. and Canada, with more than 200 members representing television, radio and online.

The 14th annual CCAs will be handed out Jan. 8 in Los Angeles and will be televised live on VH1.
