Celebrity Internet Death Hoax No. 2
Jeff Goldblum - June 2009
Here's an important lesson: If you ever hear that a celebrity has plunged to his or her death from a cliff in New Zealand, don't, well ... fall for it.On June 25, 2009, the same day Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett died, reports hit the Internet that Jeff Goldblum had met that fate that while filming a movie. It turned out that the hoax stemmed from a prank website allowing users to generate fake death reports for any celebrity. That's also why the unusual cause of death might have sounded familiar. The same fate supposedly claimed Tom Hanks in 2006 and Tom Cruise in 2008 and would go on to "kill" Natalie Portman a week after Goldblum's "death."While Twitter helped spread the rumor, some famous Tweeters also helped kill it, including actor Kevin Spacey and gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who wrote," Jeff Goldblum is NOT Dead! Stop the rumors."
