Actor/director ZACH BRAFF's online campaign to raise funds for his new movie project has closed with $3.1 million (£2 million) in donations from 46,000 fans.
The star's crowdsourcing initiative on Kickstarter.com shut down on Friday (24May13) and the star couldn't be happier with the response from fans pledging donations to fund a sequel to his cult film Garden State.
Braff launched the campaign on 24 April (13) and hit his goal of $2 million (£1.3 million) in just days.
Celebrating on Friday, he tweeted, "Thank you, thank you, thank you. I won't let you down! Lets do this."
Kate Hudson, Jim Parsons, Josh Gad and Mandy Patinkin have been cast in the film, entitled Wish I Was Here.
Earlier this year (13) a similar crowdsourcing initiative, created by filmmaker Rob Thomas, broke Kickstarter.com records after he created an account to raise funds for a movie version of his U.S. TV series Veronica Mars. It generated more than $5.5 million (£3.5 million) in 30 days and became the most-supported project in the fundraising website's history.
