Father's Day

An Open Letter (And Bar) To Dad

POSTED: 5:16 pm PDT May 12, 2004

Dear Dad,

I can't tell you all the times I remember your being there with a Screwdriver to fix something for me. You seemed like the $6 Million Man when I was a kid. Are you sure you didn't have some sort of Bionic Drink or Magic Punch that you sipped on secretly?

I will always remember you taking me to Star Wars for the umpteenth time -- again. You no doubt had your fill of Darth Vader, C3PO and the gang a long time ago, but you sat it out with me over and over because it was something you knew I loved -- even though I am sure you thought at that time I belonged to a galaxy far, far away!

A few years later, there were those times you hollered at me until you were Blue In The Face to turn down the music -- be it Bob Marley or the Jackson 5. Those were my teen years, when I thought you and Mom both needed an Attitude Adjustment. Turned out, I needed one!

I wish I could get you something really nice for Father's Day, like a BMW -- but truth is, I can't even afford a Broken Down Golf Cart.

Dad, I know I've not always been A Day At The Beach, but I want you to know how very much you mean to me.

Much love on this Father's Day and every day,

Your Mona Lisa
