BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- While dozens were called upon to talk, David Brink who was the first person in line at 9:30 a.m. did not get the chance, but said McCarthy answered most of his questions."I'm out here so I can have my voice heard. Health reform 'yes', government run, 'no'," he said. There were those opposed to the health care bill, H.R. 3200 but for health care reform. Then there was Steve Merlow, who said he doesn't approve of either.
"I'm against it simply because I buy my own healthcare, I earn it," Merlow said.Kent McKee, who's a teacher said he is lucky to have health insurance now but remembers the days he didn't have it."I support this bill. It's not perfect, it has a lot of flaws, but I think our congressman would be better served and we would all be better served if he could work with the administration on this instead of going, 'it's bad', and he doesn't like the way it goes," said McKee.Marvin Dean said he feels like he is stuck in the middle, he is not low income but doesn't make enough to pay for health insurance."Something needs to be done. Now these people who can afford to have insurance that's good but what about the ones who can't afford it, the hell with them," he said.
