New Laser Massage Removes Cellulite

Technique Shows Effective Results

Cellulite is a kind of fat tissue that can make skin look dimpled and lumpy. Many women fight it with creams, body wraps and massage. Now, a new European innovation adds laser energy to smooth out trouble spots everywhere on the body.

Cellulite can show up on almost any body part, even on a slender figure. It is fatty tissue under the skin that thickens and hardens to look like cottage cheese and toning up won't change it.

"Exercise does not do anything for this. You need to massage the skin, you need to have suction and rollers to really move that skin, in a way that cannot be done through exercise," said laser-dermatology user Paulette Long.

Laser-dermatology is a form of mechanical massage to reduce cellulite. The machine's hand piece delivers three different actions at once.

"It's something new that uses the massage and the laser and the cooling sensation to smooth the skin," said Long.

Low level laser beams stimulate circulation. Rollers and suction massage the skin to tighten the treated area plus a cooling feature soothes while it smoothes.

The treatment is typically done in a series of visits, usually a dozen or more sessions for best results. And once the skin's orange peel look is gone, you've got to keep it up.

"You can't do this one time and think it's over. It's just like doing your nails and your hair, you need to come back at least once a month, or you could stretch it to six weeks, some people two months. But you want to maintain that look," Long said.

This new massage machine is being "rolled out" first in New York and California where an individual treatment usually costs about $100 with discounts for buying a series.
