UPDATE: A 20 year old man that was struck by lightning on Venice Beach has died. He was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon, Los Angeles County coroner's Lt. Larry Dietz said.
His identity has not been released.
Today, 13 people were struck by lightning in Venice Beach. A 57-year old man was struck on Catalina Island, but remains in stable condition. The rare incident is a result of a rare summer thunderstorm that has swept through Southern California.
Nine of those people were taken to the hospital.
The storms began to dissipate as they moved northwest, leaving just a chance of storms through Monday, mainly in the deserts and mountains.
