Fewer students force closure of Sacramento schools

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -
Fewer students have forced Sacramento school trustees to shutter seven campuses.
Sacramento City Unified School District board president Jeff Cuneo says there simply aren't enough kids to justify operation of the campuses.
The 47,000-student school district has seen a 10 percent enrollment decline in the past decade and anticipates further declines.
Trustees had been scheduled to vote Thursday night on closing 10 elementary schools, but three were pulled from the list before the meeting started.
The Sacramento Bee says residential developments are expected to boost enrollment at Susan B. Anthony, Bret Harte and James Marshall elementary schools.
The elementary schools closing at the end of the school year are Washington, Maple, Collis P. Huntington, Fruit Ridge, Joseph Bonnheim, Mark Hopkins and Clayton B. Wire.
