BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - A Bakersfield elementary school teacher is one among many who have received thousands of dollars from donations to fund classroom projects through a website.

Arlee Hall, a kindergarten teacher at Bakersfield's Donald E. Suburu Elementary School, has funded 64 projects through DonorsChoose.org.

Hall is among 156 Bakersfield public school teachers who have received donations totaling $251,697 to fund 354 classroom projects through the site in the past 12 months. An additional $101,478 has been raised by 113 Kern County teachers outside of Bakersfield, funding 181 more projects.

DonorsChoose.org is a non-profit organization that connects donors with public school teachers who need classroom materials.

Almost 160,000 public and charter school teachers have used the site to secure funding for $71 million in books, art supplies, technology, and other resources that have supported more than five million students.
