JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) - Authorities say 22 high school students were taken to hospitals in upper East Tennessee, including some with serious injuries, after a school bus flipped over.
Tennessee Highway Patrol spokeswoman Dalya Qualls says 67 students were on the bus Thursday afternoon when it turned over. She says the driver overcorrected when the bus wheels dropped off the side of the road about 8 miles southwest of Jonesborough.
Washington County schools spokeswoman Susan Kiernan says the bus was carrying students from David Crockett High School and reports from the scene indicate the bus flipped multiple times.
Kiernan said she did not have conditions on the students that were taken to the hospital, but said about 20 other students suffered minor cuts and bruises.
