Perez Helps International League To All-Star Victory

POSTED: 8:07 pm PDT July 11, 2007

(Sports Network) - Timo Perez had three hits and drove in two runs, assisting the International League to a 7-5 victory over the Pacific Coast League in the 20th edition of the Triple-A All-Star Game.

Mike Hessman belted a two-run homer and Brandon Moss added a solo shot for the International League, which bolted to an early lead and then was able to escape some jams late to hold on to the win.

Perez, a seven-year major league veteran, was honored as the game's MVP.

Val Pascucci, of the hometown Albuquerque Isotopes, belted a two-run homer for the Pacific Coast League. Craig Brazell had a solo homer in the loss.

Bryan Bullington of the Indianapolis Indians threw the first two innings to get the victory, while Justin Lehr of Tacoma lasted just an inning and suffered the loss.

The International League scored four times in the opening inning. Perez, of Toledo, stroked an RBI double. Hessman, also from the Mud Hens, and Moss, of the Pawtucket Red Sox, followed with homers. Hessman's two-run blast went to right field, while Moss' ball carried over the wall in left.

Pascucci homered to left in the bottom of the first, but the International League expanded its lead to 7-2 in the fourth. Columbus' Brandon Watson doubled in a run in the second, and Rochester's Matt Tolbert, and Perez singled in runs in the fourth.

The PCL closed the gap to 7-5 in the bottom half of the fourth, Brazell, of the Omaha Royals, homered to left field, and later in the inning Clint Barmes of Colorado Spring lifted a sacrifice fly, and Iowa's Eric Patterson singled in a run.

The PCL had two runners on in the fifth, but couldn't score, and they had a better threat in the eighth, loading the bases with two outs. However, Robert Andino of the Isotopes struck out.

Pascucci came up with a runner on first and two down in the ninth, but Cory Doyne of the Norfolk Tides painted the outside corner for a called third strike to end the game and pick up the save.
