Chicago, IL -- (Sports Network) - The Chicago Cubs placed catcher Geovany Soto on the 15-day disabled list on Saturday with a left oblique strain. The move is retroactive to July 7, although it's possible the injury could keep him out up to a month. The 2008 NL Rookie of the Year suffered the ailment during batting practice on Wednesday. Soto has struggled for most of the season, hitting just .230 with eight home runs and 27 runs batted in over 69 games. The Cubs are expected to go with Koyie Hill behind the dish for the time being with Jake Fox serving as backup. In a corresponding move, Chicago recalled outfielder Sam Fuld from Triple-A Iowa. Fuld has played in six games this season for the big league club, collecting four hits in 11 at-bats for a .364 average.
