Boston, MA -- (Sports Network) - Adam Kennedy finished 5-for-7 with three RBI including the eventual game-winning hit as Oakland rallied from a late three- run deficit to top Boston, 9-8, in the second of four from Fenway Park. Rajai Davis collected a pair of hits and knocked in two runs for the Athletics, who collected 21 hits to post their second win in six games. Mark Ellis added four hits, four runs scored and an RBI, while Ryan Sweeney and Tommy Everidge also drove in a run each. Craig Breslow (4-4) got the win in relief after hurling a scoreless 10th inning. Andrew Bailey hung on to record the final three outs and earn his 12th save. "It was (especially pleasing)," said Oakland manager Bob Geren. "Especially on the road here down by that score, one of the premiere closers in the league with a three-run lead. The odds of pulling that off are slim and we did it." Kevin Youkilis posted three hits and two RBI for the Red Sox, who had won three of four coming in and wasted a 6-2 lead in defeat. Mike Lowell added two hits and drove in two, while Jason Bay and J.D. Drew also added an RBI in defeat. Manny Delcarmen (2-2) was charged with three hits and two runs in 1 2/3 innings for the setback. Oakland scratched out two runs in the top of the 11th. Ellis stroked a one-out double then scored when Davis followed with a base hit. Takashi Saito came on for Delcarmen, and, after Davis stole second, allowed Kennedy's base hit for a 9-7 lead for the visitors. Bailey got into trouble in the bottom half, allowing hits to Lowell and George Kottaras. Nick Green sacrificed both runners before Jacoby Ellsbury's groundout plated a run, but Dustin Pedroia flew out to end the game. A pair of RBI singles from Ellis and Kennedy staked Oakland to a 2-0 lead in the second. The Sox came back with five runs in the third. A walk to Kottaras and back-to- back one-out singles from Ellsbury and Pedroia loaded the bases. Youkilis doubled to left to tie the game, then a David Ortiz groundout put the Sox ahead. Bay's dribbler to short scored a fourth run and Drew's RBI double scored Bay for a 5-2 game. Lowell's double in the sixth scored Drew and extended Boston's edge to 6-2, but Sweeney's RBI single in the seventh brought the A's within three and a run-scoring hit from Kennedy in the eighth shrunk the Sox edge to two. Boston picked up a valuable run in the eighth. Bay was hit by a pitch but was thrown out at home trying to score on Drew's double. Drew went to third on the throw then Lowell's sacrifice fly plated him for a 7-4 game. Jack Cust started the ninth against Jonathan Papelbon with a walk and with two down, Everidge collected his first major-league hit, an RBI double high off the Green Monster that brought the A's were back within two. Ellis hit a dribbler to Green at short, but his throw was wild into the stands. Everidge scored to make it 7-6 and Ellis went to second. Davis hit a grounder to deep short, and Green's throw to first bounced into foul ground, scoring Ellis with the tying run and leaving Davis at third before Kennedy struck out. "We got to the ninth with Pap and a lot of things had happened to get there but we feel pretty good about the game when that happens. I thought Pap's stuff tonight was explosive. Getting ahead of Cust and walked him and then made a mistake to Everidge and then we made some mistakes," said Boston manager Terry Francona.Game Notes:Papelbon suffered his third blown save of the season...The Red Sox retired Jim Rice's No. 14 in a pregame ceremony.
