White Sox Send Floyd To Hill In Test Between Division Leaders

(Sports Network) - Gavin Floyd goes for win No. 16 this evening when the Chicago White Sox continue their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim at U.S. Cellular Field.

Floyd won his third straight start and his fifth consecutive decision on Sunday in Boston, as he held the Red Sox to a run and seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, running his record to 15-6 on the year, while lowering his earned run average to 3.61.

The 25-year-old right-hander lost his only other start to the Halos back on May 23, but pitched well, allowing just three runs and three hits in a complete-game effort.

Chicago drew first blood in this series between division leaders on Friday, as Juan Uribe belted a pair of two-run homers to carry the White Sox to a 10-2 win. Paul Konerko had three hits, including a solo homer, and Ken Griffey Jr. added a two-run single for the White Sox, who have won two straight after losing five of six.

Their lead in the AL Central remained at 1 1/2 games over the Twins after Minnesota beat Detroit, 10-2, Friday night.

Jermaine Dye had three hits and scored once for Chicago, while Mark Buehrle (12-11) threw six shutout innings to get the win. The lefty allowed three hits and struck out seven to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions.

The news, though, was not all good for the White Sox on Friday, as they found out AL home run leader Carlos Quentin will be out for possibly the remainder of the season due to a fractured right wrist. He will have surgery Monday.

Despite the defeat, the Angels lowered their magic number to five for clinching the AL West championship. That's because Texas lost, 8-1, at home to Boston Friday night.

Dustin Moseley (1-4) yielded six hits and four runs in 1 1/3 innings for Los Angeles.

Hoping to pull the Angels closer to their fourth AL West crown in five years this evening will be righty John Lackey, who is 11-3 with a 3.10 ERA. Lackey was tagged with the loss on Sunday against the Rangers, who hit him for four runs and nine hits in five innings.

Lackey has faced the White Sox 11 times and is 3-5 with a 3.91 ERA.

The Angels have split their eight meetings with the White Sox this season.
