TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- First Friday Art Around Town was created two years ago by Mel White, the owner of CrossRoads Gallery and Tehachapi Art Center. Since then, the event has grown and has seven different art venues participating around the community.

The First Friday Art Around Town is an event for people to go to the various art venues and check out art created by local artists. The venues display art from every end of the spectrum, from oil paintings and jewelry to painted panty hose. Yes, panty hose.

At this free event you can mingle with local artists, while browsing art and drinking champagne and eating hors d'oeuvres.

You may also find a great deal on a piece of art. Some of the participating artists offer discounts during this First Friday event.

The event takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the following locations:
