Kern County Fire Battles Grass Fire Near Cameron Canyon
Fire Has Spread Over 150 Acres

TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Kern County Fire received a call of a grass fire Wednesday afternoon around two in Cameron Canyon just east of Tehachapi, when crews arrived, they were faced with a spreading grass fire near numerous homes.Kern County Fire said the fire began as a 5-acre fire, but due to the wind, the fire has now spread to over 150 acres.But the wind isn’t the only challenge fire crews are facing when it comes to containing this fire.
Kern County Fire said crews are faced with high temperatures, low humidity, extremely dry grass and tough terrain.Another challenge are the massive windmills surrounded by the fire.The fire has destroyed two structures, a mobile home and an out building.As of Wednesday evening, over 65 Kern County Fire personal were working on both land and in the skies to get the fire contained.Kern County Fire does not have an estimate of how much of the fire is contained at this time, but they said they hope to have a line around the fire within by early Wednesday night.Assuming, the fire is contained early Wednesday night, Kern County Fire said crews will be in the area all night to make sure the fire is completely out.
