Police: Out-Of-Control Driver Kills Man Fixing Van

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- On Sunday around 8:50 p.m., Salvador Solorio, 48, was driving his vehicle westbound on SR-58 west of SR-223 .Solorio's vehicle suffered an engine failure and he stopped his vehicle onto the right shoulder just west of SR-223, the California Highway Patrol reported.The CHP said that Solorio and his 19-year-old son exited the vehicle to check the status of the engine.
As Solorio checked the undercarriage from the driver's side, Solorio's son kept an eye on traffic, the CHP told ABC23.Without warning, a white box-style truck traveling westbound on SR-58 left the roadway and headed right for Solorio's vehicle.Solorio's son was able to get out of the way, but Solorio was struck and sustained fatal injuries, the CHP reported.The truck fled the scene continuing westbound on SR-58.The truck is described as a U-haul style truck with no markings on the rear, unknown markings on the sides.The truck will have right front end damage and is missing a right front mud flap.A mud flap with a piece of white painted fiberglass belonging to a GM style commercial truck was located at the scene.Anybody with information pertaining to this collision is asked to contact the Bakersfield CHP Office at 864-4444.
