Ghost Hunters Investigate Old Towne Pizza

POSTED: 3:36 pm PDT October 30, 2009
UPDATED: 5:06 pm PDT October 30, 2009

Those who work at Old Towne Pizza said unusual things that can’t be explained happen all the time.

From door knobs jiggling on their own and breezes moving past them, to the most common of dimes showing up from what seems like thin air.

Owner Trina Backes explained one employee's experience, “She heard something out of nowhere just plop in the sink, and she was like, ‘what was that?’ And she felt around and it was a dime. And that seems to be what we find everywhere.”

Backes and her husband David said they have probably collected over $100 in dimes throughout the five years they have owned the restaurant.

Employee Rhona Green said, “I’ve completely swept the floor in the back and then gone back by and found a dime in the middle of the floor.”

Everyone wanted to know if it was just in their heads or the real deal, so they called the Paranormal Observation Society of Tehachapi to investigate the restaurant.

They came in with their infrared cameras, temperature gauges, electric field meters among with other equipment and captured evidence to support the workers' claims.

P.O.S.T. member Mandy Curliss said, "People would out of their peripheral vision see somebody walking by. We actually caught that on camera and we have caught a few voices.”

While the workers knew something unusual was going on at the restaurant they said to see and hear proof was thrilling.

Green said, “It happened to be right behind me in the photo and I was just like, ‘that is really cool.’”

Backes said, "When I heard it answer back when they said, ‘Does it know David?’ and I was really excited about that.”

And some people may think it’s a bunch of hokus pokus, but members of P.O.S.T. said that while ghost hunting is their hobby, they are able to bring answers to a lot of people.

Curliss said, "When they call us in, it’s kind of gratifying when we can find out the answers they need to know, like who or what is in their home.”

Workers said they have never felt threatened by the ghost but for some that doesn’t make it any less hair raising.

David Backes said, "When you come in here in the morning early, it’s freaky, it gives me goosebumps.” His wife Trina interrupts with a laugh, “It doesn’t bother me at all.” With David replying, “Well, it does me.”
