Man Rides Off Embankment, Rescued By Helicopter

RANDSBURG, Calif. -- Kern County Sheriff’s rescue helicopter ‘Air-5’ was called out Sunday afternoon for an off-road motorcyclist who drove off a steep embankment and injured his leg.Seth Shanks, 34, of Halendale, Ca. was riding in the rugged mountains near the town of Randsburg when he crashed his motorcycle, leaving him stranded on the side of a steep hill. The area was inaccessible to ground vehicles, including vehicles with 4-wheel drive, officials said.Kern County Fire Department Firefighters hiked to Shanks' location and were able to guide Air-5 to the location.
Sheriff’s rescuers hoisted Shanks into the helicopter and transported him to an awaiting ground ambulance on nearby Garlock Road.Liberty Ambulance transported Shanks to Lancaster Community Hospital.
