TEHACHAPI, Calif. -- Two men have been arrested in connection with multiple burglaries in the Kern County, Kings County, Tulare County, Ventura County, and LA County areas.During the early-morning hours of Jan. 18, the Tehachapi Police Department said the Sonic Drive-In and the Quiznos Sandwich shop were burglarized. On the morning of Jan. 19, the Cold Stone Creamery was also burglarized, TPD said.
The methods of entry and other aspects of the crimes were similar enough to indicate that all three crimes had been committed by the same people, police said. While the TPD was working to identify the potential suspects based upon video surveillance tapes and other evidence, the Bakersfield Police Department and the Kern County Sheriff’s Department were also investigating similar crimes in their jurisdictions. On Jan. 26, a Kern County Sheriff’s Deputy stopped a vehicle associated with the series of burglaries and two men were taken into custody, Scott DeWayne Thompson and Ryan Craig Watson.Police said the investigation established that the men were responsible for burglaries throughout Kern County, Kings County, Tulare County, Ventura County, and LA County.Tehachapi officers interviewed the two men while they were in custody and confirmed that they had committed the three Tehachapi burglaries. As of Thursday, Thompson remains in custody at Kern County Jail on $200,000 bail and Watson remains in custody on $51,500 bail.Based upon information learned during this investigation, the Tehachapi Police Department invites any Tehachapi business owner to contact the department for a free business security inspection.
